Why do you persecute me?
Why do you continue to persecute our Master? Does Christ have to be crucified again in the year 2018? Have we surrendered our senses to the devil and his army? What happened to love? Has it also died out and hate is now embraced? Does God himself have to surround us with a shining light to freeze us on our track? Repent and turn away from your sins! Turn away from satan and live a life of Holiness.
When you commit your first mortal sin as a child, do you not think that this hurts the Creator who loves you? It’s easy to say that it’s because of original sin that we sin. We all have a fallen human nature yes, But God didn’t create us to be like the wild brutes (animals). We are made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27) He fashioned us with reason and with gifts. It was our parent’s disobedience that lost favor with the creator. But he rescued us when he sent his Son Jesus to the world to save us (Luke 23:32-38) Our Master bled for you, suffered for you and in the end died for you!
Do you not hear Jesus calling you from the Cross? Do you not see the Son of the Living God hanging on a tree? Look at him who you have wounded! Don’t turn your face away from the Master. Look at his broken body. His flesh is exposed to the elements. The sweat that is dripping at the bottom of his Holy feet with his most sacred blood. Look at him whom you have wounded! When you stole your first thing from the store, or when you first lied to your parents. Our first sin was the nail that we hammered into his feet! So painful and so brutal are we to you Lord Jesus blinded by our desire to “become like gods”. We are lied to as children to believe the words of the evil one. Forgive us of our first rebellion.
When we disrespect our parents and our church. We think we know better. We think that we don’t need a God to tell us anything. We are our own master. We have the power to give life and to give death. Foolish worm! Is satan your father? How has this blackness entered your hearts? When you refuse to help those in need, when you refuse to do the right thing. When you willingly choose to embrace the culture of death instead of life. “Why do you persecute me?” Have I not loved you as my Father and I formed you in your mother womb? (Psalm 139:13 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”) Yet, with this open hate you nailed my right hand, my right hand that blessed you! My right hand that the Priest used to baptized you with the waters of My Salvation!
When you turned away and became selfish children. We see the naked and the sick in this hospital and do nothing for them! In fact, we have family members in the hospital and we hope for laws to pass to kill them off. We are tired of paying to keep them alive. “They will feel better once they leave this world, they won’t suffer anymore” You Pilate! Quick are you to wash the blood from your hands, yet your guilt remains! You think your sins won’t be known to me? Do you think that you can hide it deep into your souls, that Jesus won’t know? (Matthew 10:26-31– “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” We stuck a nail into his left hand. The Left hand that Jesus touched you with in your life when he healed you. When he answered a prayer. When he gave the graces to bring a lost love one back into the church!
When we supported evil in the world because it is popular or convenient to our needs, we give Jesus his crown of thorns on his Holy head! We kill our very conscience because we welcome other things in our lives instead of God. “Why do you persecute me?” When he sits at his Throne in Heaven, he is watching your every move. He knows the greatest gift that he has for every one of us. He sees that you are to be a great Doctor, a Lawyer, a woman who will help the poor in the world. The young man in Africa that will become a scientist and find the cure for AIDS. The Leader of a country that will promote peace and allow everyone to worship Him with threat of persecution and harm to his Holy Church. But we have elected the ways of pain! We seek to become like him but do all sort of evil. We promote evil and call it good. We threaten those who go against us and soon, if they don’t follow our ways, we will bring back the colosseums and throw them again to the lions. We will burn them alive on the street again as human torches!
“Why do you persecute me?” We wound him the most when we reject him, we reject the love that he is offering us. We reject the love that he has for us. Do you not see the tears from the Eyes of Jesus, looking down from the Cross? He is looking at you Child. He is looking at you who formed you, cared for you and loved you. He was with you when you got raped. He was with you when you got robbed. He was with you when you were tired and hungry and poor. He was with you when the government killed your entire people, your family and friends. He was with you when you became a slave and was forced into hard labors. He was with you when you were lonely and didn’t have any place to go. He was with you when you aborted your child, when you wanted the child to live, but didn’t know whom to turn to. He was with you in all the steps of the way in life. He was with you as an Atheist, a Buddhist, a Muslim a Hindu, a Jew and a Christian. He wants you to speak those gentle words to him, “Jesus if you are real, make yourself known to me” and he would have come down from the Cross and embraced you. Healed you and love you.
Our Sweet Jesus has done enough for us! Let us turn away from our sins and ask Our God for his forgiveness. He is ready to wash us with his Precious Blood and make our Robes White as snow. As St. John of the Cross Said “Whenever anything disagreeable or displeasing happens to you, remember Christ Crucified and be silent” Let us not wounded our Master anymore. Turn away from your sins and embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
