Mary, Mother of the Church
The Blessed Virgin Mary, The Queen of Heaven and Earth. Our Blessed Mother has many titles that are given to her. Rightly so, because of her “Yes” to the call of God the Father, she has shown what it is to be a true disciple of Christ. From the birth of her son to the crucifixion on Calvary, our Queen was with him every step of his earthly journey. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Sacred Scripture, I will present the reason why, Mary is the Mother of the Church.
When we look at CCC 963, It states that “The Virgin Mary is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the Redeemer, she is clearly then the mother of the members of Christ”. Who are these members? The members are you, me and every Christian believer of the word of God. Again, since she said “yes” to God, her gift that blossomed from her womb, Jesus, was the beginning of our faith. He is the head of his church and we, are the member of its body. Peter may have been given the keys to the kingdom, but a much higher honor was given to his mother. Mary, who is the mother of Christ, by right is also Mother of the Church. “In fact, the one whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father’s eternal son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the church confesses that Mary is truly the “Mother of God”. Jesus Christ himself gave her to us from the foot of the cross. John 19:26-27. When he did this, she became the Mother of all mankind. By being the Mother of Humanity, she is with all of God’s children in our prayers, when we say the rosary and when we ask for her intercession. CCC 507 “At once Virgin and Mother, Mary is the symbol and the most perfect realization of the church” Our lady shows us how to be humble in following the will of God. Luke 1:43-44 “And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the child in my womb leaped for joy” The Holy Spirit revealed her who the Mother of God was, yet like her Son Jesus, Mary chooses to be a servant to someone who had a need. She stayed with her cousin until the birth of John, the Baptist and then returned home. The Church is an extension of the Love of God on the earth. We are all called to be servants and be a shining example to the entire world.
CCC 968 “In a wholly singular way she cooperated by her obedience, faith, hope and brings charity in the savior’s work of restoring supernatural life to souls. For this reason, she is a mother to us in the order of grace.” The grace was given to her before she was born. We remember the greeting of the Archangel Gabriel. He spoke the message of God the Father to her. I cannot express enough of her Yes to God. She was a strong person who loved her Creator so much. Her desire in her heart was to be the most faithful Jewish child to God. “Espousing the desired will for salvation wholeheartedly, without a sin to restrain her, she gave herself entirely to the person and the work of her Son; she did in order to serve the mystery of redemption with him and dependent on him, by God’s grace” CCC 494. We must always be willing to surrender our will to God. We have this fear of letting go of things. We want to be in control of everything. We want to feel in charge of everything…. ENOUGH!!! Can we bring salvation to ourselves? Can we do anything to pay for our original sin once we were born? We are imperfect creatures. We cannot pay such a high price. We can live a whole life and still not be worthy of the saving power of God. God needed to send his son Jesus. Only he was pure enough to offer himself as a Perfect sacrifice to God the Father, in other to please him and bring redemption of God to men. Along the road to life, God has chosen men and women to be loving examples to follow in this world. They have no power on their own. It is by the Divine Providence of God that choose chooses who he will use as a vessel to bring his word to the people. God backs up the chosen one with miracles, so that he shows his mercy and love for humanity. Mary, being crowned Queen is an excellent intercessor. When she was at the wedding feast in Cana, She, came to her son and told him that they were out of wine. She told the servants, “do whatever he tells you”. Throughout history, when she has appeared to the three little children in Fatima, she gave instruction from her son, on how to bring the world back from the brink of destruction. She gave St. Dominic the rosary to pray for the conversion of the world and it has continued to bring more souls to the kingdom of heaven.
“Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gift of eternal salvation”. She loves every single one of us as her children. She loves you if you’re Jewish, Muslin, Buddhist or an unbeliever. She wants to show everyone in the entire world, how to love her Son as much as she did. The Queen of Heaven and Earth, desires all of us to be at the great banquet table in heaven. She was with the apostles of Christ on the day of Pentecost She was more prepared than the chosen disciples of Jesus to received Holy Spirit, because she was already overshadowed by him. She understood the mission of her son Jesus before he chooses the twelve. She was part of the plan of Almighty God from Genesis 3:15. When St. Peter started to preach the word of God and baptized the new believers, he added three thousand souls into the new church. In my heart, Mother Mary was not far behind in sharing the love of her son Jesus to these new children of the Living word. “Our Blessed Mother invoked the title of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress and Mediatrix”. CCC 1370 “In the Eucharist the church is as it were at the foot of the Cross with Mary, united with the offering and intercession of Christ.” Mary, Holy Mother of God is now in heaven, participating in the Mass with The Holy Trinity and all the Angels and Saints in heaven. She is also hear on the earth at each Mass. St. Padre Pio said in an interview, that when the Mass is celebrated, all the Angels are praising at the altar and the Blessed Mother is there with him. Luke 22:15-20 The second person of the Most Holy Trinity institutes the Eucharist. What a powerful gift we are given. When the anointed hands of a priest hold onto the bread and the cup of wine, he calls on these same words that Jesus tells his disciples to repeat in memory of him. May our Queen Lead us to follow her son Jesus to Heaven.
Let is close with this prayer. Jesus, we give thanks to you for coming down from heaven and becoming man, offering yourself as a perfect sacrifice to God for our redemption. We give Thanks to God Almighty for choosing Mary and making her full of grace, for you to dwell in her. May we follow her “yes” on our own path, denying ourselves in taking up our cross. May with her most powerful intercession, along with her Spouse St. Joseph, protect the Church of your son Jesus, from all harm seen and unseen. May you be with us at the Hour of our death, so we may enjoy the heavenly banquet with you Oh Lord, my God. For this we pray through Christ our Lord, Amen!
God Bless you all,
